FAQ

What’s the first step?

I always start with an initial consultation where we meet you on-site (if possible) and learn everything we can about your project. After that, I’ll provide a detailed estimate that shows a low & high range of about how much you can expect to pay for my interior design services.

How much does hiring an interior designer cost?

There are a number of factors in deciding the cost of design services on a project. These include the size, complexity and length of the design project. My hourly design fee bills out at $90.00.  I typically have a discussion with the client prior to the meeting and discuss the scope of work needed.  On longer construction projects usually a flat fee is preferred based on design services.  The fee is based on the length of the project and the number of hours that might be involved.  This design fee is outlined in a written  proposal that details the scope of work and the payment schedule.  I also have access to product at a wholesale cost.  When working with a client on furnishings, accessories, window treatments and specialty products the hourly design is waived and there is a mark up put on the item to cover my design services.

Why is another designer charging less for their services?

As a Professonal Member of the American Society of Interior Designers I have a certification of the highest profiency in the interior design field. Whereas an interior decorator focuses exclusively on décor and furniture arrangement, as an interior designer I am licensed in the development of space planning, onsite assessment, research of finishes, project management, and implementation of room design both in finishes and in furniture. With 30 years of experience and education I have the knowledge to help avoid expensive mistakes and oversights during your design project. Transparency is valued and you will see it in the design process, my pricing and my daily interactions on the design project.

When should we enlist the services of a designer?

The earlier the better! I love to help create the initial vision for the space, and the more time I have to get your project scheduled, the better.

How long does the design process take?

The timeline of the design process varies depending on the scope and size of your project. Following your initial consultation, I will provide a proposal outlining the projected scope of work and a rough estimate of the timeline.

Product lead times vary, but generally you can expect furniture to be about 8-12 weeks (for online orders). Quick-ship items can be procured in 2-6 weeks, but options are very limited—you may find what is available in that time frame looks like what everyone else already has.

Will you work with my existing contractor?

Absolutely! I’m always looking to build a professional network.

How much do people typically spend on furniture, art & accessories for a room?

You set the budget you want to spend on products. I design each space down to the tiniest details—even if it means some items may need to land on your wish list for later. I always attempt to get all of your essential pieces like seating, rugs, and a few design accents into whatever budget you set. I want you to be thrilled with your design plan!

What if I need additional help with some other odds and ends?

I’m always happy to perform additional design services outside of the project scope at an hourly rate if you need them. Let me know what you have in mind and we can discuss your options!

What if an item is no longer available when I’m ready to buy it?

I suggest that you try to purchase the items you like as soon as possible. Retailers tend to cycle products seasonally, so many of the accessories might not be available as the seasons change. I’m happy to provide some alternate options within 30 days of your design presentation if an item goes out of stock.
